CinéWilde presents “Sunset Boulevard”
Director: Billy Wilder
1950, USA, 110 mins., Digital Cinema, NR
For the first time ever, CinéWilde is showing “Sunset Boulevard,” the campy 1950s noir starring Gloria Swanson as the delightfully demented and washed up silent-film actress Norma Desmond.
Down-on-his-luck screenwriter Joe Gillis is at the end of his rope, evading car repo men when he stumbles upon Norma’s dilapidated mansion. Norma is hungry for a comeback, imagining fans rooting for her return. But her desperation for fame may prove deadly as Joe and her faithful servant Max watch her mentally unravel.
This film is part of the Texas Theatre’s Billy Wilder series featuring the iconic director’s 1960 romantic comedy “The Apartment” (showing Saturday, April 27) and the gender-bending comedy “Some Like It Hot” (showing on Sunday, April 28 at the Majestic Theatre downtown).
Join us for some Golden Age of Hollywood-themed cocktails and a pre-show talk about Billy Wilder’s queer cinematic legacy.
