Everything Old is New Again: Film Works by Roger Beebe

2019, NR

While best known for his 16mm multi-projector performances, filmmaker/curator/professor Roger Beebe has also been making a substantial body of essayistic video alongside that work in celluloid over the last several decades. This program combines recent video essays—with several of his multi-projector 16mm works. The program spans a range of approaches from the three-screen study of Las Vegas suicides, “Money Changes Everything,” to his “desktop cinema” essay on the ways that e-commerce is transforming real space and real labor, “Amazonia.” The program also includes two command performances from his 2015 screening during the Dallas Medianale: his optical sound experiments in the Texas-themed “TB TX DANCE” and his diaristic exploration of the hidden pleasures of male tears, “Historia Calamitatum.”
