Atonement (2026) + Filmmaker Q&A

2026 118 min

Presented by Screen Dallas, with Hiam Abbass, director Reed Van Dyk and producer Steven Demmler

September 20th

Filmed in Dallas in summer 2025, we’re excited to welcome the cast, crew and local film community back for a free screening of this incredible film at the historic Texas Theatre.

Join us for a red-carpet welcome at 6 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m. If you worked on the film, this screening is for you, we’d love to celebrate it with you!

Grounded in emotionally layered performances from Boyd Holbrook, Hiam Abbass, and Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh, this searing real-life story follows the lives of several characters in the years following a horrifying event. Based on Dexter Filkins’ 2012 New Yorker essay of the same name, the feature debut from Oscar-nominated writer-director Reed Van Dyk (DeKalb Elementary) considers the consequences of war long after the last shots are fired.

Atonement asks difficult questions about reconciliation and trauma while acknowledging that everyone seeks out different means of moving on. This is a story about reckoning with unimaginable pain en route to catharsis and, just maybe, atonement.

This screening is open to the community and if you worked on the film, we want you to attend! Special guests for the night include star Hiam Abbass, director Reed Van Dyk and producer Steven Demmler!
