Bleak Cinema relishes in Samhain pain with Bill Gunn’s Ganja & Hess, an idiosyncratic classic of vampire cinema that blends blaxploitation, Southern Gothic, and psychedelic eroticism.

When Doctor Hess Green becomes infected with a vampiric curse, he elopes into a covenant of revenant menace with Ganja, an illustrious and beguiling vampire. In Ganja & Hess, vampire folklore ushers in a kaleidoscopic meditation on desire, spirituality, and the vestiges of atrocity.

Proceeds from the screening will benefit Remembering Black Dallas, a nonprofit organization “with a mission to preserve and promote the African American life, history, artifacts, and culture of Dallas and its surrounding cities.”
