Winner of the SXSW Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary, SHUFFLE shows director Benjamin Flaherty’s own recovery story as he documents the billion dollar addiction treatment industry, where young people are bought and sold for their insurance policies.

Shot over the course of three years, Shuffle follows three individuals whose lives depend not on getting into treatment, but on getting out alive. Our title refers to the process by which clients are cycled through a system of “care” for maximum profit: from detox facilities to sober living, then relapse and back to detox – a process that, when repeated, can generate up to one million dollars a year per person, if it doesn’t kill them first.
