My Brothers Wedding – At the South Dallas Cultural Center
Independent filmmaker Charles Burnett has been making films his way since 1977’s “Killer of Sheep” which has since been added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. He’s worked continuously slightly under the radar over the years making both small indie films and studio features. His 1983 feature, My Brothers Wedding, had been previously buried and unseen until the Pacific Film Archive and Milestone films launched a restoration and re-release. This is a rare screening by a true maverick of independent film. Charles Burnett received a Honorary Oscar from the Academy’s Board of Governors in November 2017.
This screening will take place within the Black Cinematheque at the South Dallas Cultural Center
