TNT 112: Master of the Flying Guillotine
“Armed with the Most Gruesome Weapon ever Conceived… He Challenged the Warriors from Beyond Time!”
Relive the Texas Theatre’s sketchy years without having to sneak in your own beer as Tuesday Night Trash presents the triumphant return of Jimmy Wang Yu’s MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (1976) a full 40 years after it first screened here in 1978!
After blind assassin Fung Sheng Wu Chi’s disciples are killed by a one-armed boxer he sets out to decapitate every amputee he comes across – with the titular flying guillotine – until their deaths are avenged. Having thus dispensed with plot and character development the rest of the film consists of Jimmy and Fung Sheng handing out relentless ass-whuppings to a soundtrack consisting of stolen Neu!, Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream songs.
Cited as an inspiration by everyone from Quentin Tarantino to the Wu-Tang Clan, MOTFG is the gritty, violent personification of the 70s grindhouse aesthetic and a mainstay on most old school Top 10 lists. It would have cost you a dollar to catch it on a double bill with Werewolf Versus the Vampire Woman back in ’78 but Tuesday, May 1st TNT brings kung fu mayhem to the people for FREE! Show gets rolling like severed heads around 9:15. Protect Ya Neck!
