TO WONG FOO
This year CinéWilde celebrates two years of screening queertastic films at the Texas Theatre! Growing up isn’t easy, so as we wade through our “terrible twos” we thought we’d shine the spotlight on some of the LGBT films we love to hate.
We, the CinéWilde organizers, put together a list of films that we personally find terrible and had YOU choose which one we’d screen — you chose “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar”.
We recognize that just because we can’t stand “To Wong Foo” and the other films we put up for a vote doesn’t mean they can’t stand on their own. Taste is subjective, after all, and bad films can do good, especially for underrepresented communities.
So at our pre-show discussion, we’ll have an open forum about why people love and hate the 4 films we put up for a vote (the vote included “Trick”, “Camp”, and “Love! Valour! Compassion!”), the things that influence our tastes and a chat about your own favorite (and least favorite) LGBT films.
After the film, we’ll host a “Wine About It” open-mic. Grab a glass of wine or your favorite cocktail and rant and rave about LGBT film, Dallas traffic, or that new hipster couple, Alchemy & Dafydd, that just moved in next door.
