The screening of the 1958 Rosalind Russell film “Auntie Mame” has long been a rite of passage for gaybies as they embark on their newfound identities. Older queer confidants often usher youngins to the couch where Rosalind Russell awaits with lessons of glamour, grit, and the proper way to make a gin martini.

This Christmas, CinéWilde will transform the Texas Theater into that very couch where young and old, gay, queer and straight, can relive these lessons or learn them for the first time.

Based on the novel by Patrick Dennis — a gay/bisexual author (history is iffy on his sexual identity) whose novels, many believe, helped create the genre of “camp” — Auntie Mame is quintessential camp.
