CinéWilde Presents ‘The Color Purple’
CinéWilde is celebrating Black History Month with the critically acclaimed 1985 drama “The Color Purple,” based on the groundbreaking novel by bisexual author Alice Walker.
Directed by Steven Spielberg with a stellar cast, “The Color Purple” follows Celie (Whoopi Goldberg, making film debut!) in early 20th century Georgia as she struggles for dignity at the hands of her abusive husband (Danny Glover). Celie’s fortune changes when she meets two strong women — Shug Avery and Sofia (Oprah Winfrey, ALSO in her film debut) — but will she be able to find joy amidst Georgia’s racism, sexism and oppression?
Come see why this film got 10 Academy Award nominations, including 3 acting nominations and 4 for artistry. And join us afterwards, join us for a blowout party with a DJ in the lobby.
