Cinewilde presents – Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
On August 10, 1994 “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” set forth on a heartwarming journey carrying two wayward drag-queens and one trans-woman who find more than a blooming onion in the Australian Outback.
On July 20, 2018 we will pay homage to that fabulous bus and her fierce crew!
This camp-tastic and clever film contains some truly iconic queer cinema moments not to mention jaw-dropping performances by Hugo Weaving before he ever uttered, “Mr. Anderson…” in The Matrix; Guy Pierce before he exclaimed over and over “I have no short term memory,” in Momento; and years after Terrance Stamp bellowed “Kneel before Zodd!” in Superman II!
Penned and directed by out artist Stephen Elliot, Priscilla won an Oscar for Best Costumes and rightfully so. It’s a visual feast that surprises and delights.
And it wouldn’t be Priscilla at The Texas Theatre without CinéWilde’s Annual “Queen of the Desert” Amateur Drag Contest! Drag queens and kings welcome! Drag of any and all kind welcome! And we have prizes! We’ll also be raising money for a local LifeWalk team raising money for men and women living with HIV & AIDs here in Dallas.
If you always dreamed about pulling the wig down from the shelf and putting on some make up, you’ll want to be at the Texas Theatre Friday, July 20!
Bring a CD containing your one song (no more than 3 mins) and sissy that walk! And bring those one dollar bills (or $5’s) y’all! These queens and kings will be working hard to MAKE IT RAIN!
This promises to be a queertastic packed even so get your tickets NOW!
