CinéWilde Presents – SAVING FACE

Join CinéWilde this Friday, February 17 for a screening of Saving Face! Don’t miss this romantic queer comedy-drama by the out and proud lesbian director Alice Wu. This is the second installment of our 6 month ‘mini-season’ of enhanced programming funded by the Arts Activate Grant CinéWilde was awarded by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.

The film follows 48-year-old widow Hwei-Lan Gao (Joan Chen) who informs her less-than understanding father she’s pregnant. Her father banishes her from Flushing until she remarries or proves Immaculate Conception. With nowhere else to go, Hwei-Lan moves in with her grown daughter, Wil (Michelle Krusiec), a Manhattan doctor who doesn’t want a roommate, especially since she’s met Viv (Lynn Chen), her sexy young lover. So Wil does what any dutiful child with an expectant, unmarried mother on her hands would do: she proceeds to set Hwei-Lan up with every eligible bachelor in town.

To celebrate the film’s connection to the AAPI community we’ll have a Q&A before the film with a local Asian-American artist to discuss the work they are doing in Dallas. Stick around after the film for a same sex dance workshop led by a queer choreographer.

7:30 PM: Pre-show Q&A

8:00 PM: Screening

9:45 PM: Same-sex dance workshop
