CinéWilde Presents – SPEED RACER
Join CinéWilde on Friday, January 20th for our first screening of 2023!
We are excited to announce that CinéWilde was awarded an Arts Activate grant from the Office of Arts and Culture! WHOO HOO! The next six months will be a “mini-season” of enhanced pre-show and post-show programming. For January, we’ll be screening Speed Racer, directed by the out transgender siblings Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski of The Matrix.
This film follows the character Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) who is one of the racing world’s biggest stars. Sitting at the wheel of his Mach 5, he consistently deflates the competition. When Speed turns down an offer from the head of Royalton Industries, he uncovers a secret. Powerful moguls fix the races to boost profits. Hoping to beat the executive, Speed enters the same arduous cross-country race that killed his brother.
To celebrate the visual artistry behind Speed Racer, we’ll be interviewing a local LGBTQ artist as part of our pre-show Q&A who will lead an arts and crafts activity after the film. Stay tuned for more info!
