Matt Zoller Seitz & Odie Henderson Present: Car Wash

Director Michael Schultz’s working class dramedy details the inner workings of a Los Angeles car wash, the folks who work there and their quirky customers. You might not ever get rich watching this movie, but you’ll hear Rose Royce’s immortal, hand-clapping theme song and see Franklyn Ajaye rock the greatest Afro ever committed to celluloid. Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Prof. Irwin Corey bring the laughs while Ivan Dixon and Bill Duke deliver the dramatic goods with a powerful plea for Black brotherhood.

There will be a book signing/talk accompanied by this film. The new book “Black Caesars and Foxy Cleopatras: A History of Blaxploitation Cinema” will be available for sale in the lobby.
