Cinewilde Presents – Mame
It’s December and we need a little Christmas NOW! So we’re unwrapping the 1974 musical, “Mame,” starring Lucille Ball in her final theatrical film performance.
Based on the 1955 novel by Patrick Dennis — a gay/bisexual author (history is iffy on his sexual identity) — “Mame” follows an eccentric New York socialite who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her impressionable young nephew Patrick. Mame must use her heart and charm if she’s to outwit the schemes of the conservative banker Mr. Babcock and the intolerable Upson family.
The film is an adaptation of the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name and stars Bea Arthur, Bruce Davison and Robert Preston.
Before the film, we’ll talk with a local queer artist and afterwards, stick around for some wintry cocktails that Mame herself would’ve loved.
Treat yourself to a night of music and merriment with us, because, after all, “Life’s a banquet and most poor sons of bitches are starving to death.” And surely you’re not one of them, right?
