The Black Cat – Secret Sundays from the Vault

Year: 1966

Top Ten Records and The G William Jones Film and Video Archive at SMU are bringing 35mm prints and restored DCP’s of various genre films to the historic Texas Theatre in a series called SECRET SUNDAYS FROM THE VAULT.

This film takes Edgar Allan Poe’s famous tale and transplants it to the 60’s in Texas. This capable but cost-effective film manages to keep a steady focus on the creepy main character, and boy is he creepy! Poe’s tone transcends the centuries here and gives us quite a spooky supernatural portrait. Directed by Harold Hoffman, a cohort of local Dallas legend Larry Buchanan, this film gets a tip of the hat from us for it’s charm and local relevance. We hope you enjoy it!

THE BLACK CAT is the second SECRET SUNDAY FROM THE VAULT selection. Tickets will be $7, benefitting Top Ten Records and the G Williams Film and Video Archive.
