It's harvest season (!!) and the cornucopia has tipped offerings onto the table as we enter the best season for cinema. Several series get a turn at the wheel this week including BLEAK CINEMA with GANJA & HESS. This movie has often been mimicked and even remade, but none have captured the singularity of this unique film's POV. The squirming creepiness of BEGOTTEN makes it's way to the big screen coupled with a performance that will keep the bad vibes flowing presented by DAMN. CINÉWILDE gets the girls back together for THE CRAFT and SUSPENDED ANIMATION takes a tour of DEMON CITY. Speaking of, Japanese horror just hits different. The folktales of YŌKAI alone should give you something to worry about. KWAIDAN is a collection of ghost stories remastered in 4K resolution set to creep you out to the max. But if you'd like more classic chills BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN presented by BISHOP ST BALLET gets the job done. When SOFIA COPPOLA's MARIE ANTOINETTE premiered it was met with a split reaction. A movie about such an iconic historical figure with THAT soundtrack baffled critics while it thrilled audiences. But what they got wrong was COPPOLA wasn't aiming for a history lesson or even BARRY LYNDON's period authenticity, she presented the gorgeous bubble of one of most polarizing figures in history, playing to the myth while the guillotines await. It's 20th anniversary is presented in part of the GEN X CINEMA series. Lastly - a couple legends stop by with the endlessly amazing WILLY WONKA that might be the creepiest performance yet. PLENTY more where that came from below! - JR
