TWO DRAAGS INHABIT THE “FANTASTIC PLANET.”
In René Laloux’s politically-motivated animated classic, FANTASTIC PLANET, enslaved humans (“Oms”) have been brought to the distant planet Ygam, to serve as playthings for the giant native inhabitants (“Draags”). The strange film is meticulously designed, and has served as inspiration and creative fuel for artworks in all forms of media and genre ever since. Nerd note: it’s illustrator, Roland Topor, co-founded the “Panic Movement,” a surrealist performance art collective, with Alejandro Jodorowsky. Immediately following the screening, we bring you a blistering eighth edition of Cursed Days behind the screen.
Continuing a trend of animation, we also open THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS this week, a French film based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name.
Speaking of colors, this week CinéWilde returns with the iconic drag film, THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT in fabulous 35mm.
We’re also proud to present a screening of Spike Lee‘s seminal 1989 film, DO THE RIGHT THING, presented by NYC author, filmmaker and curator, Brandon Harris, who will also be signing copies of his first book, “Making Rent in Bed-Stuy: A Memoir of Trying to Make it in New York City.” Harris is a regular guest of the Oak Cliff Film Festival, so we’re especially excited to co-host him (with The Wild Detectives) in Dallas.
Additionally, Casey Affleck haunts the theater again this weekend, as we proudly holdover A GHOST STORY.
